tension

 

19sts and 24 rows to 10cm (double crochet) on 3.50mm hook or size needed to achieve stated tension.

Please Note

It is important to check your tension before starting your garment. If there are too many stitches to 10cm, your tension is tight and you should change to a larger size hook. If there are too few, your tension is loose and you should change to a smaller size hook.

Caution

It is essential to work to the stated tension, and we cannot accept responsibility for the finished product if any yarn other than the specified yarn is used.

instructions

 

Hat

Front & Back (both alike)
With 3.50mm hook and MS, make 40 [44] ch.

Foundation row – (RS), 1dc into 2nd ch from hook, 1dc into each ch to end (39 [43] sts.)

Row 1 – 1 ch (does NOT count as st), 1dc into each dc to end, turn.

This row forms dc fabric.

Work in dc fabric until hat measures 19 [22] cm, ending with RS facing or next row. Fasten off.


make up

 

Press lightly under a dry cloth using a cool iron.

Join top seam. Join side seams reversing seam 6cm from bottom for brim. Fold brim. With 1st C, work blanket st round top edge of brim as in photograph.

Large Flower

With 3.50mm hook and 2nd C, make 8ch and join with a ss to form a ring.

Round 1- 3ch (count as 1tr), into ring work 1tr, (6ch, 3tr) 5 times, 6ch, 1tr, ss into 3rd ch at beg of round.

Round 2 - *1ch, into next 6ch loop work (1dc, 1htr, 7tr, 1htr, 1dc), 1ch, miss next tr, 1ss into next tr: rep from * 5 times more placing last ss into 3rd ch at beg of previous round. Fasten off.

Small Flower

With 3.50mm hook and 1st C, make 6ch and join with a ss to form a ring.

Round 1- 1ch, (does NOT count as st), 15dc into ring, ss to first dc (15sts).

Round 2 – [3ch, 1tr into next 2 dc, 3ch, ss into next dc] 5 times placing last ss into last dc of previous round. Fasten off.

Sew in ends, placing small flower over top of large flower sew in place at centre front of hat brim as in photograph. Sew button into centre of flower.

Tassels – (make 2 in each of MS, 1st C and 2nd C)

With 3.50mm hook, work 19dc into hollow ring, ss into first st. Work 20ch and fasten off.

Taking one of each colour sew into top corners of hat as in photograph.

Tassels (make 2)

Cut a rectangle of card 12cm in width. Using 1st C wind the yarn around card 40 times. Break the yarn, thread yarn through a sewing needle and pass the needle under all the loops (do not remove needle). tie the end of the yarn firmly around the loops, remove the card and cut through the loops at the opposite end to the knot. Wind the end of yarn around all the loops below the fold and fasten securely. Pass the needle through the top and use the end to sew the tassel in place at the top corner of the hat. Trim the ends neatly.

Sew in place the 3 buttons as in photograph, first one being placed on centre front of the brim and the two others evenly placed up front of hat.
