how to make up |
| |
|
Before making up the cushion cut out the fabric for the cushion pad. Use the 3 cushion pieces - cushion front, cushion back and gusset - as a pattern and pin these to the fabric. Cut out each piece leaving 1 cm all round edges for seam allowance.
Pin the gusset to the cushion front (with wrong sides together) so that the gusset join meets in the centre of lower edge.
With a no. 4 mm crochet hook and main yarn, working from the right side and starting in the centre of lower edge, work in double crochet as follows.
Inserting hook through both layers of work, work 34 dc to 1st corner, *work 3 dc in corner then work 64 dc along 2nd side of triangle, work 3 dc in 2nd corner, then work a further 64 dc along 3rd side, work 3 dc in 3rd corner, * then work 34 dc along remaining section of lower edge. Fasten off.
Pin the other edge of gusset to the cushion back. Make sure that the corners match. Mark an 18 cm gap along lower edge of cushion.
Starting at the edge of this 18 cm gap and working as for front cushion work 20 dc to 1st corner then work as for * to * of front cushion. Now work 20 dc to 18 cm marker, then working through back cushion layer of work only work, work 44 dc between markers. Fasten off and join in ends.
Sew in all loose ends of work. Sew 1 button into place on each corner of the small triangles.
Pin zip into place in 18 cm opening along lower edge of back. Using matching sewing thread and small backstitches, sew zipper into place.
Cushion Pad Press 1 cm seam allowance at each short end of gusset.
Pin gusset to front cushion with right sides of fabric together, and starting at the short (pressed) end of gusset, placing it to centre point of lower edge.
Pin gusset all round edge of cushion front so that the other pressed edge of gusset butts up to the 1st pressed edge.
Sew together snipping the gusset at each corner.
Reinforce the corners with extra row of stitching. Work 2nd side to match.
Stuff the cushion using toy stuffing, until it is firm.
Sew short ends of gusset together.
Put the cushion pad inside the cushion. |
