instructions

Note: Use a 0.5 cm seam throughout.

Using template cut out seven cat shapes from the black glitter felt.

Make a 50 cm (20”) circular template using the pencil and a piece of string (25cm (10”) radius) onto some large paper. Cut out template. Fold polka dot fabric in half and pin template to both layers. Cut out fabric.

Pin the seven cat shapes onto the right side of one piece of fabric, spacing them evenly around the outside edge leaving a 2 ½ cm gap and their feet facing the outside edge. Place one cat into the embroidery hoop and using the free stitch embroidery foot on the machine (remembering to drop the feed dog) stitch round the cat using the Coats Reflecta thread. Repeat this with all seven cats. Iron the fabric afterwards making sure you DO NOT IRON THE CATS.

With right sides facing and Coats cotton thread, using the normal sewing foot on the machine, stitch around the edge of the circle, leaving a gap for turning the mat to the right side.

Before turning mat to the right side trim seam by cutting out small triangles from around the hem, open out the sides of the hem and iron the seam flat. This will help the seam to be smooth and keep its shape.

Turn the mat to the right side and iron around the seam making sure it is flat but DO NOT IRON THE CATS. Stitch up the gap using an invisible stitch.

Using Anchor Tapisserie wool, sew a chunky blanket stitch around the edge of the mat to finish.

Your table decoration is now ready to use, Happy Halloween!
