sizes

 
To fit ages 4-5 years.

tension

 

16.5 sts and 22 rows to 10cm (stocking stitch) on 5.50mm needles or size needed to achieve stated tension.

Caution
It is essential to work to the stated tension, and we cannot accept liability for the finished product if any yarn other than the specified yarn is used.  The knitted fabric produced is very stretchy, therefore take care not to pull fabric when measuring.

Scarf

With 5.50mm needles, cast on 25sts.

Row 1- (RS) K4, *P1, K3; rep from * to last st, K1.

Row 2- K2, *P1, K3; rep from * to last 3sts, P1, K2.

These 2 rows form patt.

Rep last 2 rows until scarf measures 95cm, ending with RS facing for next row. Cast off in rib.

To Make Up
Sew in ends.

Fringe
Cut 35 lengths of yarn 20cm long and making 7 groups of 5 lengths attach to one end of scarf evenly. Repeat for other end. Trim ends.

Hat

With 5.5mm needles, cast on 81sts.

Row 1- (RS) K2, *P1, K3; rep from * to last 3sts, P1, K2.

Row 2 - *P1, K3; rep from * to last st, P1.

These 2 rows form patt.

Rep last 2 rows until hat measures 25cm, ending with RS facing for next row.

Next row – (Eyelet row), K1, *yfwd, sL1K, K2tog, psso, rib 3; rep from * to last 2sts, rib 2.

Starting with row 2, continue in rib patt until hat measures 29cm, ending with RS facing for next row.

Cast off in rib.

To Make Up
Join back seam reversing seam on lower 6cm for brim. Turn back brim.

Using 4 strands of yarn make a twisted cord approx. 50cm long, thread through eyelets, draw up firmly and tie securely.
