tension

 

On 4mm needles, 22 sts and 29 rows to 10 cm (stocking st).

Caution
It is essential to work to the stated tension and we cannot accept liability for the finished product if any yarn other than the specified yarn is used.  You are advised to knit a tension square before starting.

K=knit; P=purl; st(s)=stitch(es); stocking st=stocking stitch (1 row K, 1 row P); cont=continue; dec=decrease 1 st by working 2sts together; inc=increase 1 stitch by working into front and back of next st; cm=centimetres; mm=millimetres; in=inches; rem=remain(ing); approx=approximate; RS=right side; WS=wrong side; beg=beginning; foll=following; meas=measures.

Instructions are given for first size with larger sizes given in square brackets [  ]. Where only one figure is given, this applies to all sizes.  Before starting t knit, read the instructions carefully and circle all figures relating to your size with a coloured pencil.

Front
**With 3 1/4 mm needles, cast on 95 [107, 117, 129] sts and work in rib thus:
Row 1 – (RS), K1, *P1, K1; rep from * to end.
Row 2 – P1, *K1, P1; rep from * to end.  Rep these 2 rows until rib meas 7 cm ending with RS facing for next row.

Change to 4 mm needles and starting with a K row, work in stocking st until Front meas 30  [32, 33, 33] cm ending with RS facing for next row.

Shape armholes
Cast off 4 sts at beg of next 4 rows. Dec 1 st at each end of next 3 [7, 11, 15] rows (73 [77, 79, 83] sts) then on every foll alt row until 69 [73, 77, 81] sts rem.**

Work 5 [3, 1, 1] rows, ending with RS facing for next row.

Shape neck
Next row – K25 [27, 29, 31] turn and leave rem sts on a spare needle.
Dec 1 st at neck edge only on every row until 18 [19, 21, 22] sts rem.  Cont straight until armhole meas approx 20 [21, 21, 23] cm, ending with RS facing for next row.

Shape shoulder
Cast off 6 [6, 7, 7] sts at beg of next and foll alt row. Work 1 row. Cast off rem 6 [7, 7, 8] sts.

With 4 mm needles and RS facing, slip next 19 sts on a spare needle, rejoin yarn to rem sts, K to end.  Work to match first side, reversing shapings, working an extra row before start of shoulder shaping.

Back
Work as Front from ** to **.

Continue without shaping until Back matches Front to start of shoulder shaping, ending with RS facing for next row.

Shape Shoulders
Cast off 6 [6, 7, 7] sts at beg of next 4 rows, then 6 [7, 7, 8] sts at beg of foll 2 rows.  Leave rem 33 [35, 35, 37] sts on a spare needle.


make up

 

Join right shoulder seam.

Neck Border
With RS facing and 3 ¼ mm needles, knit up 33 [35, 35, 39] sts down left side of neck, K19 from front, knit up 33 [35, 35, 39] sts up right side of front neck then K33 [35, 35, 37] from Back inc 1 st st centre (119 [125, 125, 135] sts).

Starting with row 2, work in rib as on Front for 5 rows. Cast off in evenly rib.

Join left shoulder seam and Neck Border.

Armhole Border
With RS facing and 3 ¼ mm needles, knit up 97 [99, 101, 107] sts evenly all round shaped armhole edge. Starting with row 2, work in rib as on Front for 5 rows. Cast off in evenly rib.

Join side seams and Armhole Borders.

On a clean towel, block out garment by pinning carefully with pins all round outer edges, omitting ribbing and ensuring garment is not pulled out of shape. Cover with a damp cloth and leave to dry.

Hand wash in lukewarm water, taking care to support garment when wet. Do not wring.

Dry flat on a clean towel, nudging carefully into shape whilst damp. Do not dry hand-knitted items in harsh sunlight as fading or yellowing may occur.

Do not iron. Do not tumble dry.
