instructions

The spraying works best when keeping the can vertical.  Practice your spray painting first of all by spraying onto waste paper, stuck to a wall with masking tape to determine how far away to hold the can and how fast to move it about. You may also want to practice the shape of the line you are to draw on the Back.

Back Detail

Hang the Jacket on a coat hanger so that it is vertical and protect the area behind with newspaper. Spray your design line on the Back of the Jacket.  Leave to dry.

Lapel

Spray the reverse of the length of lace with Prym Temporary Adhesive and position it on the Left lapel, using the heat of your hands to stick it into position.  Protect other areas of the Jacket with paper and masking tape. Spray through the lace onto the Lapel. Remove the lace and leave to dry.

Doily Detail

Spray the reverse of the smaller doily with Prym Temporary Adhesive and position in place at lower right side hem of Jacket, using the heat of your hands to stick it into position. Spray through doily with aerosol and remove doily.  Leave to dry.

Spray the reverse of the larger doily with Prym Temporary Adhesive and position in place over the top of the smaller doily. Spray through doily with aerosol and remove doily. Leave to dry.

Do the same with the left Cuff, ensuring to protect all other areas.

Once all areas have been sprayed, they are ready for embroidery.

Embroidery

This is all worked in free-machining. You may find that a quilting foot (also called a Darning foot or Trapunto foot) will make this easier.
Use an embroidery hoop to prevent the fabric from puckering and to help you to move the fabric around (see “How To” Instructions for Free machine Embroidery).

Line Embroidery

Starting with the Alcazar Metallic shade 9326, work along the line of the spray paint in a “feathering” technique, starting at the base of the line and working towards the starting point – see Diagram.

On completion, change to Alcazar Rayon, shade 0535 and work over the top of the previous stitching then continue to end of line and work in circular motion at the darker section at end of line to complete.

Now change to shade 0527 and work over the top again.

Doily and Lace Embroidery

For the doilies and lace detail, simply follow some of the shaped outlines in free machining, as desired. Following manufacturers’ instructions, iron the transfers in position to left sleeve, Pocket Flap and Buttonhole area.

Add Studs to left Lapel and randomly on Back to finish.
