materials required

Anchor Stranded Cotton: 1 skein each of Scarlet 46 and Emerald 227. Use 2 strands throughout.

1 piece of cream stripy fabric, measuring 22 cm x 22 cm.

Some scraps of blue/white, yellow/white and red/white stripy fabrics.

A small amount of Bondaweb.

A sharp pointed pencil.

A shop bought denim draw-string bag.

Milward Crewel Needle No.8.

instructions

Iron a small piece of Bondaweb on the reverse of each piece of stripy fabric. Cut out the templates and using the photograph as a guide, place the templates face down on the reverse of the appropriate coloured fabric (as the image will be reversed) and draw round each template onto the Bondaweb. Cut out the shapes and position on the cream stripy fabric. Iron in position.

Using 2 strands of Emerald 227, work Blanket Stitch around each shape of the boat.

Trim the cream stripy fabric to within 2 cm of embroidery and place towards the lower edge of the denim bag and stitch in position, 1 cm in from the edge. Fray cream fabric to the stitching line. Using 2 strands of Scarlet 46, work a row of Chain Stitch over the stitching line. Press lightly on the wrong side, taking care not to spoil the design.
