1. Cut a strip of Indian style fabric large enough to fit around the button edge of your skirt
2. Pin the strip of fabric around the bottom of the skirt and with a sewing machine stitch it on securely.
3. Use the satin ribbon to border your fabric by pinning a length around the skirt at the top edge of indian fabric.
4. As before machine stitch the ribbon onto the skirt with a straight stitch.
5. To neaten off the bottom edge of the skirt use ribbon again but this time fold the ribbon over the edge to act as a seam binding , pin in place and machine stitch.
6. The skirt trim is now ready to embellish, for this use anchor pearle thread, following the top ribbon line blanket stitch all the way around the skirt.
7. Add some sparkle with the paisley iron on transfers across the indian fabric. Follow the manufactueres instructions whilst ironing onto the fabric.
8. Use a slightly lighter embroidery thread to enhance shapes within the patterns of the fabric with a simple running stitch following the curves of the lines. See photograph.
9. Finish off- use flattest sides of the gold eyelets spaced out across the bottom edge of the skirt, to secure the eyelets hand hand stitch in place. I have used eight eyelets across the bottom of the skirt.
10. In between the circular eyelets stitch a decorative chain stitch. Continue chain stitch all the way around the back of the skirt.
11. Add final touch with a clip on rhinestone in the centre of each of the gold eyelets.
12. If desired add a ribbon cord to the waist band of your skirt. This is done by simply folding the 25mm ribbon in half and stitching with the sewing machine. Tie in a bow and secure by hand onto the centre of the waist band. |
