Did you see our free crochet pattern inspired by the sea? This gorgeous project was the winner of a national design competition and we thought it would be something special to give you the chance to crochet this stunning pattern. A perfectly seasonal piece too, as we head into summertime…

Stephanie Phillips of Ampthill, Bedfordshire was the lucky winner of the Women’s Institute / UK Handknitting Association competition. Her table runner design was inspired by family holidays at the seaside, beach combing and rock pooling. As you can see from the picture, the central panel is made up of starfish and surrounded by a barnacle border, with a bold fringe edging resembling seaweed. We couldn’t think of a better reminder of dreamy holidays spent trawling the beach for nature’s treasures…
