instructions for sarong

Arrange the flowers at random along the shaped edge of the sarong as shown in the picture. Use the template by placing it under the fabric and trace the outline of the flower using the Aqua Trick Marker (always test on a small piece of fabric, to ensure it will wash out). This sarong has 4 flowers on the front and 4 flowers on the back.

To embroider a flower use 3 strands of Anchor Stranded Cotton and work a Running Stitch around the outline of the flower, sewing ends in securely. With an alternative shade whip the Running Stitch. Attach 7 beads to the centre of each flower.

The colourways of the flowers were worked as follows starting at the top corner and repeating in order.

Flower 1- Running Stitch shade 94 Violet & Whipping Stitch shade 1098 Red.

Flower 2 – Running Stitch shade 54 Pink & Whipping Stitch 94 Violet.

Flower 3 – As flower 1.

Flower 4 – Running Stitch shade 94 Violet & Whipping Stitch 54 Pink.

Randomly place the buttons among the flowers and sew into place using 3 strands Anchor Stranded Cotton shade 256 Green.

Rinse the sarong in cool clear water to rinse out the Aqua Trick Marker outlines as once pressed these can become permanent.

Abbreviations
ch=chain; ss= slip stitch; dc=double crochet; rep=repeat; WS=wrong side;

Special Abbreviation
Bead 1= slide a bead up next to the hook and make 1 ch to secure bead in place on work.

Crochet Flower (make 2)

Before starting to crochet, thread 380 beads onto yarn. To do this, thread a fine sewing needle with sewing thread. Knot ends of thread and then pass end of yarn through this loop. Thread a bead onto sewing thread and then gently slide it along and onto yarn. Continue in this way until the required amount of beads are on the yarn.

Note: When working round 3 make sure that the loop is not twisted before working into next dc.

With 2.50mm hook, make 5 ch and join with a ss to form a ring.

Round 1- (WS) 1 ch (does not count as a stitch), work 10 dc into ring, ss into first dc. (10 dc)

Round 2 – 1 ch, work 2 dc into each dc, ss into first dc. (20 dc)

Round 3 – 1 ch, 1 dc into first dc, (bead 1) 16 times, * dc into next dc, (bead 1) 16 times; rep from * 18 times more, ss into first dc. Fasten off. (20 loops)

Sew in ends.

Now take the piece of fabric and the Prym cover buttons, following the instructions on the pack, cut out the two circles of fabric and cover the 2 buttons. Place a button over the right side of the crochet flower with metal attachment loop going through the centre of the flower and sew in place. Taking a long length of the cotton 4ply thread through the metal centre loop of the button and holding flower in place on flip flop attach the flower to the flip flop by winding the yarn around the bar of the flip flop and catching it through the flower underneath the button. Repeat several times until flower is secure. Fasten off.
