I have seen a cross stitch/tapestry kit in a cross stitch magazine that I would like to complete. How do I order this from you?
Unfortunately, we do not have a mail order service. However, if you contact our consumer services department and give our team the details of the kit and the first two letters of your postcode, then they will be able to check if a stockist local to you stocks the kit for sale. If the team is unable to find a local stockist, they will be able to recommend a mail order retailer which sells the product.

I have recently purchased one of your kits. What can I do if I don’t have enough threads or find a skein missing, for example?
Customers who find themselves with insufficient threads, or find an element missing from their kit should contact consumer services. The team will need the kit number and shade number together with your name and address. They will then either forward you the threads directly, or contact the manufacturer of the kit and have them forward the required product to you.

I have mislaid/damaged my chart and would like a replacement chart. Is this possible?
Yes. Call consumer services, give the team the kit reference number along with your name and address. They will see you receive a replacement.

I have started knitting a sweater using Patons yarn and have discovered I do not have enough to finish my garment. I went back to my local shop only to find that she has no stock of this yarn remaining. What can I do?
Please call consumer services, and give the team details of the type of yarn you need, the shade number and dye number. The team will check with our sample department whether we have any remaining stock. If we do, we will be able to forward you a small number of balls of yarn. NB: We do not have a mail order service, but are willing to send small numbers of balls of yarn to allow a customer to complete their project.

I have a chart I would like to stitch, but is for evenweave fabric and I want to work on aida. How can I work out what count aida to use?
Cross stitch on evenweave fabric is worked over two strands of thread, so fabric with a 28 HPI count, i.e. 28 holes/threads per inch, will create 14 stitches per inch, the same as 14 HPI aida. Halving the HPI of evenweave gives you the equivalent aida HPI, so it is easy to convert from evenweave to aida, and vice versa.

I have just purchased a kit that is worked on Navy aida. I have never used a dark coloured fabric before, and am finding it difficult to work as the holes are hard to see. Do you have any suggestions that would make this easier for me to work?
There are several things you could try to make it easier. First make sure that you are working in a good light and use a lamp that simulates daylight if you can. Use a magnifier, and work with something white - a sheet of paper or pillowcase - on your lap to show through the holes. Alternatively, work with a light source behind your stitching. Some of the lamps can be attached to some frames and shine behind the fabric.

I have just started doing cross stitch and my instructions state to start in the centre of the chart. Is there a simple method I can use for this?
All of our charts are marked with an arrow at the top and sides of the design, to make it simpler to find the centre. Draw one line down and one across the chart based on these arrows. The point where they cross is the centre of the design.

I have found a design that I would like to stitch but it is using metallic threads. I have tried these before and find them difficult to control. Can you suggest anything which may help?
When stitching with metallic thread, use shorter lengths of thread (no longer than 30cm) and use a slightly larger needle that makes a bigger hole in the fabric. This can help prevent the thread catching as it passes through.

Could you give me any advice on keeping my tension correct whilst stitching?
You need to work your stitching with a hoop or frame as this will keep your fabric at a consistent tension and makes for much neater stitches. This also stretches the fabric and therefore the holes are slightly larger, making stitching much easier.

I have recently bought one of your kits, but feel that the fabric contained in the kit is not large enough to work the design, the chart that is contained in the kit appears to be nearly twice the size of the fabric and would therefore not fit on the piece of fabric. Is this right?
It is likely that the fabric size will be the size required. The chart that is contained in the kit will be much larger than the finished design. These are enlarged to make them clearer to follow and therefore make your stitching much easier.

Could you help me with the kit I have just purchased? It has a large area worked in half cross stitch and I have been wondering which way the half cross stitch should be worked?
This is entirely up to the individual. You can use the bottom half of your cross stitch or the top half, but providing you keep the sequence of the way these are stitched, there is no right or wrong way to work this.
