The new season’s clothes and accessories are starting to filter into the shops – so get one step ahead of the fashion pack by kitting yourself out now!
Top of the shopping hot list for autumn is anything tasselled. The catwalks were full of fringed pieces, from evening dresses to handbags. A fringed evening gown might not be the most wearable buy, but a tassel-trimmed bag or shoes is a great way to get the look without going overboard.
At Etro it was leather day bags that were covered in tassels. Ferragamo took a more glamorous approach with beaded fringing on their evening clutch bags. Paul & Joe and Gucci added fringing to their shoes and boots for a really funky take on the look.
At Jaeger it was skinny scarves that got the tassel treatment, with floor-skimming styles giving the simple tailoring a quirky twist. Fringed belts were the key accessory at the Hermes show, giving their folky, layered outfits some definition at the waist.
Luckily, you can get this look quickly and easily without ever setting foot in a designer boutique. Buy lengths of ready-made fringing and stitch them to an old bag, or knit a skinny scarf and add an ultra-long fringe at each end, Jaeger style. All the fringe benefits of high fashion with none of the cost!
