1. Use the piece of red leather as the basis for the belt, adjust length according to your waist size. To create the curved effect which will make the belt wider at the front and smaller at the back fastening , fold leather in half and mark concave curve from centre fold to edges. The widest part (20cm) will be the front of the belt and the slimmest part (10cm) will be the back of the belt.
2. Use scissors to cut the curve out of the leather and cut down the centre fold to create two pieces of leather ready for the next step. Lay out leather with widest areas as in the centre.
3. We have cut the belt in half ready to join it back together using a lace-up effect.( see photograph) Mark four dots on widest edge of each piece of the leather approximately 5 cm apart from each other. These dots will show where to insert the eyelets.
4. Following the manufacturers instructions insert the 11mm eyelets in place using marked dots as a guide. You should now have four eyelets on each edge of the leather ready to lace up.
5. Take the long length of patterned fabric and the length of red ribbon and thread both through the eyelet holes to create laced up effect. Tie in a bow at the bottom.
6. To decorate the belt cut the black floral motif (926158) in half. Cut flour leaf shapes (approx 5cm in length) from black fabric, iron on bondaweb to back of leaves (follow manufacturers instructions).
7. Place leaf shapes and black floral motifs as desired on either side of the lace-up. (See photogpraph) and use the iron to secure in place.
8. Now you are ready to embellish the decoration. Use anchor hand embroidery threads and running or decorative stitch techniques to embellish the shapes.
9. To add sparkle cut both rhinestone transfers into quarters and place as desired on decorative areas. Follow the manufacturers instructions to iron rhinestones onto the belt.
10. Finally, to fasten the belt at the back cut strips of both hooks and eyes 10 cm in length from the tape(992 103). Pin hook tape on one edge and eye tape on the other and secure in place with a simple length of machine stitch. |
