Using yarn DOUBLE, 17 sts and 22 rows to 10cm (stocking stitch) on 5.00mm needles or size needed to achieve stated tension.

Cushion front

With 5.00mm needles and MS DOUBLE, cast on 78sts.

Carrying yarn up side of work and starting with a K row, work rows 1 – 98 of stripe pattern. Cast off knitways.

Cushion back (lower section)

With 5.00mm needles and MS DOUBLE, cast on 78sts.

Carrying yarn up side of work and starting with a K row, work rows 1 – 46 of stripe pattern.

Cont in MS DOUBLE only.

Next row – K10, K2tog, (K6, K2tog) 7 times, K10 (70sts).

Knit 8 rows.

Cast off knitways.

Cushion back (upper section)

With 5.00mm needles and MS DOUBLE, cast on 70sts.

Knit 4 rows.

Next row (buttonhole row) – K16, yfwd, K2tog, (K16, yfwd, K2tog)twice, K16.

Knit 3 rows.

Next row – K7, (M1, K8) 7 times, M1, K7 (78 sts).

Carrying yarn up side of work and starting with a P row, work rows 56 – 98 of stripe pattern.

Cast off knitways.

With 5.00mm needles and MS DOUBLE, cast on 10 sts.

Row 1 – (RS) K.

Row 2 and every foll alt row - P.

Row 3 – Inc into every st (20 sts).

Row 5 – Inc into every st (40 sts).

Row 7 - *Inc into next st, K1; rep from * to end (60 sts).

Row 9 - *Inc into next st, K2; rep from * to end (80 sts).

Row 10 – P.

Cast off knitways.

To shape rose, twist to form a spiral and sew in place at back. Attach button to centre of flower.

Work a second flower using MS and a third flower using 1 strand of MS and 1 strand of C together.

Do NOT press.

Join lower seam (cast on edges of front and bottom back), join top seam (cast off edges of front and upper back). Overlap cast on edge of upper back 3 cm over cast off edge of lower back and pin outside edges, join side seams.

Turn cushion cover RS out and sew on buttons to correspond with buttonholes.

Sew flowers in position at top right hand corner of cushion as in photograph.
