1 piece Rowan Fabric 34 x 27 cm (Free Spirit ‘Barefoot Roses’ in Rose Pink)

2 x 25 cm lengths Gold-Zack 10mm wide ribbon in white

1 x 25 cm length Gold-Zack silver Ric-rac braid

1 reel Coats Cotton sewing thread to match (4514)

1 reel Anchor Alcazar shade 9018

1 packet Anchor Style Pearl beads (Desdemona 4619012-09061)

approx. 22 small seed beads in pale pink

approx. 20 small bugle beads in pale pink

Using Anchor Alcazar and a decorative stitch on the sewing machine, sew the 2 lengths of ribbon onto the fabric. Position the first length 3cm in from the side edge of the fabric, leave a 2 cm space and then position the second length of ribbon. Position and stitch the ric-rac braid into position between the two lengths of ribbon, placing a small bugle bead on the diagonal of each curve.

Turn and press a 1 cm double hem along each side of fabric, mitring the corners. Trim the sheet of felt to measure 30 x 23 cm. Insert the felt under the hem with the patterned side showing and stitch along all 4 sides approx ½ cm in from outer edge. To make sure felt is securely held in place, turn placemat over and invisible sew edge of hemline onto felt.

Decorate each side edge of the placemat by attaching 11 pearl beads and 11 seed beads evenly spaced along each edge.

approx. 13 Anchor Style Pearl beads (Desdemona 4619012-09061)

approx. 13 small seed beads in pale pink

Cut out a 13 cm diameter circle from the fabric and 2 x 10 cm diameter circles from the felt. Place one felt circle onto centre of fabric circle and fold over excess fabric, snipping ‘V’ into fabric so that it will lay neater, pin and tack in place. Position the second felt circle over bottom the side and invisibly sew all layers together. Spacing evenly, position and attach 13 pearl beads and 13 seed beads around edge of coaster.
