It’s great news for girly girls this year, as the childrenswear designers have decreed that frills, flounces and ruffles are back in a big way. The runways were filled with frothy confections in lace, silk, tulle and chiffon – trimmed with ribbons, bows and embroidery for extra-girly bonus points!
Leading the way was Miss Blumarine, who are famed for their ultra-feminine designs. This season’s collection featured delicate lace skirts teamed with cashmere sweaters and net ballerina skirts trimmed with ribbon. The colours were as girly as they come too, with petal pink, powder blue and silver top of the list.
Monnalisa and Alberta Ferretti also showed ballerina-style tutu skirts. The full shape and layers of frills were the same as the Blumarine show, but both designers gave them a funkier edge by using black. Worn with long socks or opaque tights, they were perfect for parties and special occasions.
At Lilica Ripilica it was tops that were trimmed with frills. Baby-pink ruffle-front shirts, pastel knitwear with frill trims and even a pale grey winter coat with a frilly collar.
If you know a little girl who would love this look why not have a go at creating your own frill-trimmed clothes? For a quick fix, add a frill to a shop-bought skirt or dress or make a simple net underskirt to update a favourite party dress. If you have more time, then a tutu skirt or dress will make you very popular indeed!
