Future-forward design magazine Wallpaper* recently hosted a huge exhibition over four floors of the Milan Furniture Fair. Many leading designers, artists and makers were asked to create installations based on the craftsmanship of Brioni (a leading Italian fashion brand).
Rowan were delighted to be part of this event – on arrival, visitors couldn’t fail to notice the display entitled 12,000 Stitches. This innovative design was created by London architects Carmody Groarke. The idea behind the artwork is to pay tribute to the craftsmanship there is in a single Brioni suit.
The yarn used to depict the 12,000 threads was donated by Rowan, part of Coats Crafts. The yarn Rowan Siena in Chilli Red was woven onto aluminium looms to celebrate the art or the tailor. And there are an amazing 18km of yarn in this piece! If you had some time on your hands, you could try this at home using wire coat hangers and some leftovers, but you probably wouldn’t quite achieve this magnificent effect!
