Patons new Baby Book

The new Patons Baby Book 3810 featuring Patons Soft Baby Fab 4ply is packed full of gorgeous photography – adorable babies and lovely clothes for little ones. Smiling, contented dream babies…. We caught up with Patons designer Heather Granger who  revealed her behind-the-scenes secrets to this great new pattern book…

When it comes to working with babies, the Patons team had plenty of tricks up their sleeves. Everyone's top priority was keeping babies happy and calm. Much like film stars on the red carpet, our babies needed their beauty sleep and had to be kept away from the other stars or tears may result!

Heather explained, "Planning was key… the photographers had to work around individual nap times, feed times and even plan in time for baby ‘surprises’." We don’t need to say more!

They’d already planned in advance which babies would wear which garments, and the babies had a trial run of photographs, so they felt comfortable with all the bright lights and the location when their big moment arrived.

"Mums were right beside our babies on set to meet their every need and help keep their babies content and relaxed," says Heather. "Our team kept the photography set as calm as possible with only baby, mum, the photographer, a computer operator for the digital shots, and the essential assistant, otherwise known as the ‘baby wrangler’. Even though our babies for the Patons Baby Book are not yet walking, they can be surprisingly fast movers, and the day can turn into something of a baby-catching sport!"

With six babies to photograph, it’s a testament to Heather and her team that the photos were all taken in a day… It’s said the final pattern book artwork took twice as long as the other books for this season, because the graphic artist was so busy brooding over the babies.

Visit your local store to view Patons Baby Book 3810. If you’re knitting for a baby you’ll find a gorgeous selection of garments, and the babies are pretty cute too!
