Prym Knitting Needles: Pair each 3.0 and 4.0 mm (UK 11 and 8/US 2-3 and 6-7)

Prym Circular Knitting Needle: 3.0 mm (UK 11/US 2-3)

Instructions are given for first size with larger sizes given in square brackets [  ]. Where only one figure is given, this applies to all sizes.  Before starting t knit, read the instructions carefully and circle all figures relating to your size with a coloured pencil.

Turkish pattern: Row 1 (right-side row): 1 edge stitch, *1 yarn over, knit 2 together*. Repeat * from * continuously and end with 1 edge stitch. Repeat this row continuously in both right-side and wrong-side rows.
Rib pattern 2/2: Row 1: 1 edge stitch, *knit 2, purl 2 *. Repeat from * to * continuously and end with 1 edge stitch. Row 2: Work all stitches as they appear.

Back: With 3 mm knitting needles, cast on 76 (80) stitches. Work 2/2 rib pattern for 8 cm (3 1/4 inches). Change to 4 mm knitting needles and continue with Turkish pattern until 86 rows have been worked. Shape armholes as follows: cast off 4 sts at beg of next 2 rows, 2 (3) sts at beg of foll 2 rows and 2 sts at beg of next 2 rows, Dec 1 st at each end of next and foll alt row (56(58) sts).

Cont straight until 132 rows from beg of patt have been worked. Shape neck and shoulders as folls; Patt 10(11), turn, K2tog, patt to end. Cast off remaining 9 (10) sts. With Rs facing rejoin yarn to remaining sts, cast off 36sts and patt to end. Next row; patt to last 2 sts, K2tog. Turn, cast off remaining 9 (10) sts.

Front: Work as for back to armhole shapings. Shape armholes and neck as folls; Cast off 4 sts, patt 30 (32) sts (including st left on needle after cast off). Turn.

1st size only: Cast off 2 sts at beg of next 4 rows.
2nd size only: Cast off 2 sts at beg of next row, 3 sts at beg of next row, and 2 sts at beg of next 2 rows.
Both sizes: Dec 1 st at beg of next 4 rows. Work 1 row. Dec 1 st at neck edge on next and every foll 4th row until 9 (10) sts remain. Work 6 rows straight. Cast off remaining 9 (10) sts. With Rs facing, rejoin yarn to remaining sts, cast off 8 sts and patt to end. Complete to match first side reversing shapings.

Sleeve: With 3 mm knitting needles, cast on 48 (52) stitches. Work 2/2 rib pattern for 6 cm (2 1/2 inches). Change to 4 mm knitting needles and continue in Turkish pattern shaping sides by inc 1 st at each end of the 23rd, 47th and 71st rows, knitting the increased stitches in the 24th + 72nd rows. Cont straight until 96 rows in patt have been worked. Shape sleeve cap as follows: Cast off 4 sts at beg of next 2 rows, 2(3) sts at beg of foll 2 rows. Dec 1 sts at each end of next and every foll 4th row until 28 sts remain. Work 1 row. Cast off 4 sts at beg of next 2 rows and 3 sts at beg of foll 2 rows. Cast off remaining 14 sts.


make up

 

For the neck band, use the 3 mm circular needle to pick up 110 (114) stitches from front neck edge and 40 (44) stitches from back neck edge. Then work 6 cm (2 1/2 inches) in rib pattern. Sew shoulder seams and side seams. Sew sleeve seams. Insert sleeves.
