Knitted Rust Top With Crochet Sleeves

Create this crochet sleeved rust top which will keep you warm during those cooler summer nights. As featured in 'Womans Weekly' magazine.

 

materials required

 
4 (4) (5) (5) 100g balls of Patons 100% Cotton 4ply.

No.10 (3 1/4mm) Inox knitting needles

A 1.75mm crochet hook.

Yarn costs about £3.05 per 100g ball.
Pumpkin (01709) was used to create this pattern.

28 stitches and 36 rows to 10 x 10 cm over stocking stitch, using No.10 (3 1/4 mm) needles. 2 repeats of sleeve pattern across and 13 rows to 10 x 10 cm, using 1.75mm crochet hook.

With No.10 (3 1/4 mm) needles cast on 116 (124) (132) (140) sts.
Beginning with a k row, ss 28 rows.
Dec row: K3, k2tog, k to last 5 sts, skpo, k3. Ss 9 rows. Repeat last 10 rows, once more, then the dec row again – 110 (118) (126) (134) sts. Ss 11 rows.
Inc row: K2, inc, k to last 4 sts, inc, k3. Ss 7 rows. Repeat last 8 rows, 5 times more, then the inc row again – 124 (132) (140) (148) sts.
Ss another 23 rows. **

Shape armholes
Cast off 7 sts at beginning of next 2 rows.
Dec row: K3, k2tog, k to last 5 sts, skpo, k3. Ss 1 row. Repeat last 2 rows, 5 (5) (7) (7) times more, then the dec row again – 96 (104) (108) (116) sts. Ss 51 (51) (57) (57) rows.

Shape neck
Next row: K30 (32) (34) (36), turn and work on these sts for right back neck.

Right back neck
1st row Cast off 5, p to end. 2nd row: K to last 2 sts, dec. 3rd row: Cast off 4, p to end – 20 (22) (24) (26) sts.

Shape shoulder
Cast off 10 (11) (12) (13) sts at beginning of next row. P 1 row. Cast off remaining 10 (11) (12) (13) sts.

Left back neck
With right side facing, rejoin yarn to remaining sts, cast off centre 36 (40) (40) (44) sts, k to end – 30 (32) (34) (36) sts.

Right front neck

Sleeves (both alike)
With 1.75 mm hook, work thus: 1st foundation row (right side): Make 16ch, slst in 8th ch from hook, [7ch, slst in same ch] twice, * make 23ch, slst in 8th ch from hook, [7ch, slst in same ch] twice; repeat from * 4 (4) (5) (5) times more, turn. 2nd foundation row: 15ch, slst in 8th ch from hook, 7ch, slst in same ch, 7ch, miss next 7chlp, 1dc in next 7chlp, * 7ch, miss next 7chlp and  7ch,  slst in next ch, [7ch, slst in same ch] 3 times, 7ch, miss next 7chlp, 1dc in next 7chlp; repeat from * 4 (4) (5) (5) times more, [7ch, slst in end ch] twice, 4ch, 1dtr in end ch, turn.

Next row: 7ch, miss next 7chlp, 1dc in next 7ch lp, 7ch, slst in last dc. Fasten off.

Neck edging
Join shoulder seams. With right side facing, rejoin yarn at right shoulder seam, and using 1.75 hook, work 60 (64) (64) (68) dc around back neck, 47 (47) (51) (51) dc down  left front neck, 1dc in centre of front, then 47 (47) (51) (51) dc up right front neck, slst in first dc.
Shell edging round: [Miss 1dc, 4tr in next dc, miss 1dc, slst in next dc] to last 3 dc, miss 1dc, 4tr in next dc, miss 1dc, slst in first dc. Fasten off.

to make up
 
Press as given on ball band.
Set in sleeves, sewing rows above markers to cast off sts at underarms. Join side and sleeve seams.
