Relief Pattern Cardigan project using Patons Fab DK

A stylish cardigan with a relief pattern detail running throughout, created using Patons FaB DK, our high quality value yarn. This is really a cool look which is perfect for everyday wear.

Patons FaB is available in a fantastic range of colours so you can tailor the look to suit your own individual taste.

Patons FaB! DK - Shade 02310
6 x 100g balls for the small version.
7 x 100g balls for the medium and large versions.

1 pair each 4.00mm (UK 8) (USA 6) and 3.75mm (UK 9) (USA 5) Prym knitting needles or sizes needed to give correct tension.

A cable needle.

3 stitch holders.

A wool needle for sewing up.

8 buttons.

tension

 

19 sts and 30 rows to 10 cm over basic patt, using 4.00mm Needles.

To work a 15 cm x 15 cm tension square, use 4.00mm needles, cast on 36 sts. Work 42 rows basic patt (see chart). Cast off loosely. Check your tension carefully. If less sts use smaller needles, if more sts use bigger needles.

Caution
It is essential to work to the stated tension and we cannot accept liability for the finished product if any yarn other than the specified yarn is used.  You are advised to knit a tension square before starting.

M1 - Make 1 - pick up loop which lies before next st, place on left hand needle and purl through the back of loop.

K1B - knit into next st 1 row below, slipping both stitches off needle together.

CF - slip next st onto cable needle and leave at front of work, P1, then K1 from cable needle.

CB - slip next st onto cable needle and leave at back of work, K1, then P1 from cable needle.

With Correct Yarn and Tension, your garment will look like the photograph.

BACK

Using pair 3.75mm Needles, cast on 96 (108-120) sts.

1st row - * P1, K1, rep from * to end.

Rep 1st row for 1 x 1 rib until work measures 8 cm from beg, inc 1 (1-0) st/s at beg of last row … 97 (109-120) sts.

Change to 4.00mm Needles and beg basic patt.

Work basic patt as for chart, noting to work an edge st, P1, then beg with 7th (1st-10th) st, work chart over 15 st rep, ending with 15th (7th-13th) st, P2 (1-1), then edge st. On all wrong side rows knit all knit sts and purl all purl sts as they appear OR work from written instructions as folls -

1st row - P2, (P1, M1, K1) 1 (0-0) time/s, (P2, K1) 2 (0-2) times, * (P1, K1B) 3 times, P1, M1, K1, (P2, K1) twice, rep from * to last 3 (9-14) sts, P1, (K1B, P1) 0 (3-3) times, (M1, K1, P2, K1, P1) 0 (0-1) time/s, P2 … 104 (116-128) sts.

Keeping patt correct, cast off 2 (4-7) sts at beg of next 2 rows.
100 (108-114) sts.

Next row - P1, K1, sl 1 knitways, K1, psso, patt to last 4 sts, K2tog, K1, P1.
98 (106-112) sts.

Cont dec one st at each raglan edge (as before) in every foll alt row until 36 sts rem.

Cast Off.


LEFT FRONT

Using 3.75mm Needles, cast on 48 (54-60) sts.

Work in 1 x 1 rib as for Back until work measures 8 cm from beg, working last row on wrong side.

Change to 4.00mm Needles and beg basic patt.

Work basic patt chart as for Back, noting to end rows with a 7th st, then P3 OR work from written instructions as folls -

1st row - P2, (P1, M1, K1) 1 (0-0) time/s, (P2, K1) 2 (0-2) times, * (P1, K1B) 3 times, P1, M1, K1, (P2, K1) twice, rep from * to last 10 sts, P1, (K1B, P1) 3 times, P3 … 51 (57-63) sts.

SHAPE NECK

Next row (wrong side) - Cast off 7 sts, patt to end … 15 sts.

Dec one st at raglan edge (as before) in next row, then in every foll alt row 4 times, AT THE SAME TIME dec one st at neck edge in every row 8 times … 2 sts.

Next row - Patt 2, turn. K2tog. Fasten off.

RIGHT FRONT

Using 3.75mm Needles, cast on 48 (54-60) sts.

1st row - * K1, P1, rep from * to end.

Rep 1st row for 1 x 1 rib until work measures 8 cm from beg, working last row on wrong side.

Change to 4.00mm Needles and beg basic patt.

Work basic patt as for Left Front, noting to reverse patt OR work from written instructions as folls -

SHAPE NECK

Next row (right side) - Cast off 7 sts, patt to last 4 sts, K2tog, K1, P1 … 15 sts.

Work 1 row patt.

Dec one st at raglan edge (as before) in next row, then in every foll alt row 4 times, AT THE SAME TIME dec one st at neck edge in every row 8 times … 2 sts.

Next row - Patt 2, turn. K2tog. Fasten off.

SLEEVES

Using 3.75mm Needles, cast on 50 sts.

1st row - * K1, P1, rep from * to end.

Rep 1st row for 1 x 1 rib until work measures 8 cm from beg, working last row on wrong side and inc one st at beg of last row … 51 sts.

Change to 4.00mm Needles and beg basic patt.

Work basic patt as for chart, noting to work an edge st, P1, then work chart over 15 st rep, ending with 7th st, then edge st. On all wrong side rows knit all knit sts and purl all purl sts as they appear OR work from written instructions as folls -

1st row - P1, * (P1, K1B) 3 times, P1, M1, K1, (P2, K1) twice, rep from * to last 8 sts, P1, (K1B, P1) 3 times, P1 … 54 sts.

2nd row - Knit all knit sts and purl all purl sts as they appear.

SHAPE RAGLAN

Keeping patt correct, cast off 2 (4-7) sts at beg of next 2 rows … 78 (86-92) sts.

Next row - P1, K1, sl 1 knitways, K1, psso, patt to last 4 sts, K2tog, K1, P1.

Next row - Knit all knit sts and purl all purl sts as they appear.

Rep last 2 rows until 14 sts rem.

Work 1 row patt.

Leave rem sts on a stitch holder.

COLLAR

Using yarn needle and mattress st seam, join raglan seams, noting that tops of sleeves form part of neckline.

With right side facing and using 3.75mm Needles, knit up 19 sts evenly along right side of neck, knit across sts from right sleeve stitch holder, knit across sts from back stitch holder - inc one st in centre, knit across sts from left sleeve stitch holder, then knit up 19 sts evenly along left side of neck … 103 sts.

1st row - P1, * K1 P1, rep from * to end.

2nd row - K1, * P1, K1, rep from * to end.

Rep 1st and 2nd rows until work measures 8 cm from beg, working last row on wrong side.

Cast off loosely in rib.

LEFT FRONT BAND

With right side facing and using 3.75mm Needles, knit up 151 (157-157) sts evenly along side edge of collar and left front edge.

Work in rib as for collar until work measures 2 cm from beg, working last row on wrong side.

Next row - Rib 4 (6-6), * yarn over needle (to make a stitch), K2tog, rib 18, rep from * to last 7 (11-11) sts, yarn over needle (to make a stitch), K2tog, rib 5 (9-9) … 8 buttonholes in all.

Cont in rib until work measures 4 cm from beg, working last row on wrong side.

Cast off loosely in rib.

RIGHT FRONT BAND

With right side facing and using 3.75mm Needles, knit up 151 (157-157) sts evenly along right front edge and side edge of collar.

Work in rib as for Left Front Band until work measures 4 cm from beg, working last row on wrong side.

Cast off loosely in rib.


make up

 

With a slightly damp cloth and warm iron (unless stated otherwise on ball band), press lightly on wrong side, taking care not to flatten patt. Using yarn needle and mattress st seam, join side and sleeve seams. Sew in all ends. Sew on buttons.
