Two 12 cm (4⅝in) squares of Narrow Check (NC 03)
Two 12cm (4⅝in) squares of lightweight batting
33cm (13in) of 2.5cm- (SC 07) matching threads

Lay the batting pieces onto a flat surface and lay the checked fabric on top of the batting. Pin and baste the layers together around the outer edges. Working on the batting side, draw parallel diagonal lines spaced 3cm (1 1/4 in) apart across each egg cosy piece. Turn the pieces 90 degrees and draw parallel lines spaced as before in the opposite direction, to form a diamond grid. Machine quilt along the drawn lines.
Trace over the egg cosy template and use the template to cut out a cosy shape from each quilted square.
Cut a 6cm (2⅜in) length from the bias binding and press in half lengthways with the turnings inside. Stitch pressed edges together. Fold in half to make a loop and stitch the raw ends to the right side of one egg cosy piece, placing it at the centre of the curved edge at the notch position marked on the template.
Machine stitch the two cosy pieces, right sides together, along one side, for a distance of 5cm (2in) up from the straight edges, with a 6mm ( ¼ in) seam allowance.
Open out the two joined cosy pieces and neaten the straight joined edge by applying bias binding folded in half lengthways with turnings inside and machine stitched over the raw edge. Stitch the remaining curved edges of the cosy, right sides together, with a 6mm ( ¼ in) seam allowance, keeping the lower bound edges level and sandwiching the loop in place at the top. Neaten the turnings together and turn the egg cosy to the right side. |
