instructions for girls picture

 

Cut gingham fabric into 4 strips each 10 cm in width. Using 0.5cm seams, machine stitch the gingham strips around the piece of white cotton fabric. Press seams. Place piece of Stitch & Tear behind fabric to add strength. Assemble picture in following order.

Use 2 strands of Anchor Stranded Cotton throughout.

Flower in top right hand corner.
Using template cut out 1 x flower A in Baby Pink glitter felt and 1 x flower B in Shocking Pink felt. Sew a Pink Glitter button in centre of flower shape A, using Anchor Stranded Cotton shade 29 Bright Pink stitch a circle of French Knots around the button. Place flower A on top of flower B and stitch in place with a row of Running Stitch using Anchor Stranded Cotton shade 29 Bright Pink. Place flower onto fabric at top right hand corner overlapping slightly onto the gingham fabric, stitch in place using a Running Stitch and Anchor Stranded Cotton shade 23 Baby Pink.

Using template cut out 1 x flower C in Shocking Pink felt and 1 x flower D and circle F in Baby Pink glitter felt. Place circle shape on top of flower shape C and sew a Clear Glitter button in centre, using Anchor Stranded Cotton shade 1 White stitch a circle of French Knots around the button. Place flower C on top of flower D and stitch in place with a row of Running Stitch using Anchor Stranded Cotton shade 23 Baby Pink. Place flower onto fabric at top left hand corner overlapping slightly onto the gingham fabric and stitch in place using a Running Stitch and Anchor Stranded Cotton shade 29 Bright Pink.

Centre Flower
Using template cut out 1 x flower A in Yellow glitter felt and 1 x flower B and circle F in Purple felt. Place circle shape on top of flower shape A and sew a Clear Glitter button in centre, cut small lines from outer edge of circle to button making sure you have an even number, snip off every alternate piece. Place flower A on top of flower B and stitch in place with a row of Back Stitch using Anchor Stranded Cotton shade 111 Purple. Place flower onto white cotton fabric at centre and stitch in place using a Running Stitch and Anchor Stranded Cotton shade 291Yellow.

Using template cut out 1 x flower A in Purple felt and 1 x circle F in Baby Pink glitter felt. Place circle shape on top of flower shape A and sew a Pink Glitter button in centre, using Anchor stranded Cotton shade 111 Purple stitch a circle of French Knots around the button. Place flower onto fabric at bottom right hand corner overlapping slightly onto the gingham fabric and stitch in place using a Running Stitch and Anchor Stranded Cotton shade 23 Baby Pink.

Ask the child whom the picture is for to write their name in pencil onto the white cotton fabric. Using any shade of Anchor Stranded Cotton and Chain stitch, embroider over their name.

Using the heart template E, cut out several heart shapes in different colours of felt (reverse the template for some hearts). Sew a button in centre of each heart shape and stitch onto the fabric using Running stitch and a contrasting shade of Anchor Stranded Cotton.

Leave the Stitch & Tear in place. Stretch fabric over the Artists canvas and attach securely to frame.


instructions for boys picture

 

Cut gingham fabric into 4 strips each 10 cm in width. Using 0.5cm seams, machine stitch the gingham strips around the piece of white cotton fabric. Press seams. Place piece of Stitch & Tear behind fabric to add strength. Assemble picture in following order.

Make 2 copies of the template and cut picture into the different pieces. Using these as templates cut out as follows;
In Baby Blue glitter felt – the boats sails and the waves
In Royal Blue felt – main body of the boat
In Red felt – boats trim and flag
In Cocoa Brown felt – boats mast

Use 2 strands of Anchor Stranded Cotton throughout.

Position the boats main body onto the white fabric 1 cm up from lower seam and central from side seams. Using a Running stitch and Anchor Stranded Cotton shade 134 Royal Blue, stitch in place. Add the red trim to the top of the boat, positioning it on top of the main body and stitch in place using a Running stitch and Anchor Stranded Cotton shade 134 Royal Blue. Next place the waves, slightly overlapping the bottom of the boat and stitch in place with a Running stitch and Anchor Stranded Cotton shade 1 White. Position the three buttons below the red trim to look like portholes and sew in place. Position the boats mast going upwards from the centre of the boat and using Anchor Stranded Cotton shade 381 Brown, couch this down to look like a wooden mast, attach the red flag to top of mast with Anchor Stranded Cotton shade 47 Red. Lastly place the boats two sails in position and using a Running stitch and Anchor Stranded cotton shade 1 White, stitch in place.

Leave the Stitch & Tear in place. Stretch fabric over the Artists canvas and attach securely to frame.
