The numbers quoted in each coloured shape on Templates refer to the relevant numbered “Window Pockets” on each building. Where 2 numbers are together in brackets, these refer to the 2 numbered “Window Pockets” that appear on the same building. Each coloured number refers to the same coloured Template outline.
Background
Lay the cobalt cotton fabric at the top of the calico backing, then place the biscuit cotton at lower edge, overlapping the cobalt. Baste in position.
Using Alcazar metallic, zigzag over the top raw edge of the beige through all layers. Add some horizontal waves on the beige using a straight stitch.
Buildings and Roofs
Iron Bondaweb onto the reverse of the Rowan Patchwork fabrics.
Trace off each of the templates separately onto tracing paper taking care to also transfer the numbers correctly.
Leave approximately 12cm free at top for channel and sky.
Pin Building Templates onto desired coloured glitter felt pieces then cut out the buildings. Pin then cut out the Roof Templates from a selection of Rowan Fabrics and the Lavender felt, using photograph as a guide.
Start from the top-most building and work towards the bottom, using the green Alcazar to stitch felt pieces in place, overlapping them as you go along.
Simply iron the cotton fabric roofs in position, then using Alcazar Metallic topstitch Roofs.
Embellish Buildings and Roofs with strips of ribbon sewn down with zigzag and straight stitching.
Add diamantes and iron-on transfers (cut the strips into individual motifs) to Buildings and Roofs.
Window Pockets
Cut 5cm strips from Antique White Glitter Felt. Zigzag the gold ribbon along the top edges. Cut Strips into 5cm x 5cm squares to form the Window Pockets (21 in total).
Using photograph as a guide, place the Window Pockets onto the buildings with Ribbon edge uppermost. Stitch around sides and lower edge through all layers.
Three Kings
Use the King Templates numbered 1-8 and cut out all from Rowan fabric except pieces 2, 7 and 8 – cut these from glitter felt.
Using the Diagram, construct each King, working in number order, stitching and ironing pieces in position, noting
Piece 1 – Work 3 vertical rows of zigzag embellishment. Piece 2 - Add iron-on motifs or diamantes before sewing in position around sides and lower edge only. Piece 5 – Stitch across top left only to leave beard free. Piece 8 – When positioned on fabric, add a piece of gold ribbon and zigzag through all layers
Add a diamante to each crown (piece 8), through all layers.
Star Motif
Cut out both Star motifs from white glitter felt. Place smaller one on top of the larger one and using photograph as a guide, secure in place to top left of sky using tubular rivet or diamante and following manufacturers’ instructions.
Trim project evenly to approximately 48cm x 99cm.
Enclose side and lower raw edges with Bias Binding. Fold over top edge twice to form a channel for doweling. Stitch in place.
Add remainder of diamantes to sky background.
Using fabric paint, write the correct numbers onto each of the windows and the three Gifts. Add some more wavy, horizontal lines onto the Biscuit fabric. Finally, add a cross to the top of the top right Roof.
Leave fabric paint to dry overnight.
Insert doweling into channel. Tie a length of ribbon to each end and hang up to display.
