Coats Crafts UK is teaming up with The Quilters’ Guild to support young quilters in a big way this summer. Not only is Coats Crafts UK supporting The Quilt Museum and Gallery summer workshops in York, but it has also been supporting the Young Quilters’ workshops at the Festival of Quilts.
The Quilt Museum in York is hosting a variety of workshops including a Wartime Sewing School aimed at young visitors aged 7 to 15. The summer’s holiday learning programme is aimed at young visitors, families and also adult learners. It will encourage those who love to sew to recycle old materials and give ideas on how to be creative on a budget.
Of course the talent of ‘Make do and Mend’ was not lost on homemakers during wartime, and the techniques and ideas you will learn beautifully complement what you can see in the museum’s Sewing in Wartime exhibition.
Coats Crafts UK has donated some gorgeous Rowan and Free Spirit fabrics as well as Coats Cotton threads for the summer activities. Younger visitors attending the summer sewing school will be able to create VE Day Party Bags, make a handy sewing kit bag, design a machine and hand-stitched Dig for Victory project, as well as learn all about rationing. We can’t recommend these workshops highly enough – you couldn’t find a more creative and educational choice for youngsters this summer.
Coats Crafts UK has also been supporting the Young Quilters’ workshops at this year’s Festival of Quilts at the NEC, by providing Milward quilting needles and Coats Cotton mercerised cotton ticket 50 threads across a variety of colours. With all this summer activity and creativity we’re expecting a wealth of new young talent in the years to come.
The Quilt Museum runs a programme of events throughout the year. To find out more visit the Quilt Museum website. Or visit The Quilters’ Guild website for even more information on quilting activities and events across the UK.
