Soft cotton scarf

Make a fashionable scarf with some beautiful Free Spirit fabric. Trimmed with tassels, this trendy scarf is great for adding a splash of colour to a plain jumper.

It’s light, soft and just enough to ward off the cold. And a fabric scarf is a perfect alternative if you can’t wear wool. Our free sewing pattern uses a soft and airy voile fabric from Free Spirit’s Little Folks Voile range by Anna Maria Horner. These light cotton fabrics are so soft and have a great drape, which makes them perfect for scarves, or even soft fabric flowers. The whimsical patterns are small in scale in this range, with bold colour ways and prints to die for.

There are many ways to wear a fabric scarf, but if you’d like to wear the scarf like our model, fold the square into a triangle, and wear with the point at the front and drape the ends softly round the back of your neck to dangle at the front.

Trim with home-made tassels made from Anchor cotton. Or, if you prefer an even quirkier look, we’ve seen designer scarves with a haberdashery bobble trim, costing upwards of £40. With our free scarf pattern, you can make a unique scarf for much less!
