Malcolm Lochhead is known for his ecclesiastical and historical embroidery projects, many of which have been worked alongside local Embroiderers’ Guild members. Fans of his work will be delighted to hear of his latest designs…
Malcolm’s latest church offering is for the Mayfield Salisbury Church in Edinburgh, which will decorate the front of the Victorian communion table in the church, with a matching pulpit fall and lectern markers. The embroidery team has been led by Sheena Macdonald, who has worked with a team of experienced stitchers to transfer the designs onto canvas.
These designs, as you can see, feature a variety of traditional religious symbols with a modern touch. The canvas work has been stitched over many hours with Anchor Tapisserie wools and the team is delighted with the way the colours really zing. All we have to do now is wait and see how they stand up to many years of use.
