If you find it difficult to tear yourself away from your stitching (and not that we’re saying that’s a bad thing), we may have found the book to tempt you away from your Aida and Anchor. We’ve found this gem that stitchers will love. ‘The Girl on the Wall’ by Jean Baggott, just published, is a remarkable achievement.
Jean was born in 1937 and, in 2006 began what has turned into an epic and remarkable project. As a testament to her life and times she began a huge cross stitch sampler (112cm x 41cm) depicting and celebrating her past. Not only did she create the sampler but wrote the accompanying memoir ‘The Girl on the Wall.’
The Girl on the Wall refers to a photo of herself, aged 11, which she remembers as she begins to chart her life in words and in stitches. Jean Baggott’s engaging conversational tone will be enjoyed by stitchers and non-stitchers alike, as she brings to life recent history and combines it with her background right up to the present.
Jean is now in the final year of a history degree at the University of Warwick, proving that accomplishments great and small can be achieved at any stage in life.
