Celtic Plait
Celtic Plait in wooden frame

Mixing modern technology with traditional motifs.  The Celtic Plait has been stitched using Anchor's new multi-coloured threads, highlighted with gold metallics. Designed by Sally McCollin.

materials required
 

Anchor Stranded Cotton: 1 skein each of 152, 170, 1064 and 1066. Use 2 strands throughout

Anchor Stranded Multicolor: 1 skein of sunrise 1305. Use 2 strands throughout

Note: When working with Anchor Stranded Multicolor, work in Single Cross Stitch following diagram

Coats Ophir: 1 reel of Gold 300. Use single thickness throughout (alternatively, 4 strands of Anchor Lamé could be used instead.)

Anchor Aida Fabric: 1 piece 20cm x 18cm of White Aida, 14 blocks to 2.5cm

Anchor, Prym or Milward Tapestry Needle: no. 24

Mark the centre of the Aida fabric, lengthways and widthways with a line of basting stitches. The diagram gives the complete design, centre indicated by arrows which should coincide with the basting stitches. Each background square on the diagram represents one block of fabric or one Cross Stitch or Back Stitch.

Commence embroidery centrally, following diagram, key to diagram and Stitch diagrams. On completion of embroidery, press lightly on the wrong side, taking care not to spoil the design.
