materials required

Anchor Stranded Cotton: One skein each of colours listed in key to diagram. Use 2 strands for cross stitch, 1 strand for back stitch.

Anchor Aida Fabric: 1 piece 24 cm x 28 cm of Anchor white aida fabric, 14 holes to 2.5 cm.

Anchor, Prym or Milward Tapestry Needle: no. 24.

how to work the design

Mark the centre of the aida fabric lengthwise and widthwise with a line of basting stitches. The diagram gives the complete design, centre indicated by large arrows which should coincide with the basting stitches. The design is worked throughout in cross stitch and back stitch and each background square on the diagram represents 1 block of fabric or one cross stitch or back stitch. It is important that the upper half of all crosses lie in the same direction throughout.

Commence the embroidery centrally, following diagram, key to diagram and stitch diagram. On completion of embroidery, press lightly under a cloth on the wrong side of fabric, to avoid flattening the stitches.
